JaVon Ophelia Butler is a native of Lutcher, La. She is the daughter of the late Joseph Butler, Sr. and Joy Ann Woodland Butler of Lutcher, LA. Her siblings consist of two brothers, Joseph Butler, Jr. and Jamal Amon Butler, Sr. of Lutcher, LA. She is a graduate of Lutcher High School. JaVon also attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana- USL located in Lafayette, LA (currently known as University of Lafayette). In Fall of 2001, Ms. Butler received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science with the highest G.P.A. in the Political Science Department, and also earning a minor in Psychology from Southern University A & M College in Baton Rouge, LA. In Summer of 2004, JaVon received her Masters of Public Administration with a concentration in Public Policy from Southern University A& M College.​


Throughout her years, JaVon has given her life to her contention, “We Serve God Through Serving Others.” She has devoted her life to being a Servant of God. Recently, JaVon received her Ministerial License from Choice International Ministries, Bishop Antoine M. Jasmine, Overseer. Presently, JaVon serves as the Drama Director at Choice International Ministries, directing & writing monologues and plays for different occasions. She has spoken at several different church events and has inspired many young people to live for Christ. Butler’s desire is for young people to serve God by applying the Word to their lives.​


In JaVon’s community involvement, she has served her community as the Former St. James Parish NAACP President. She served two terms equaling 4 years. During her tenure, the St. James Parish NAACP Chapter, #6315 was revitalized and restructured to serve the citizens of St. James Parish. Her greatest accomplishment was bridging the gap between the residents of the east and west banks of the Mississippi River. The togetherness displayed what the NAACP Chapter stood for in our nation--Unity. She was the youngest NAACP President in the State of Louisiana during her terms. After serving as the St. James NAACP President, JaVon was the Campaign Manager for a local Parish President Race’s and a Louisiana Senatorial Campaign. 


During her college years, JaVon was afforded the opportunity to serve the U.S. Department of State Inspector’s General’s Office as a Management Analyst Intern for the International Broadcasting Oversight Office, governed by Former Secretary of State Colin Powell. Butler is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Bayou Lafourche Chapter.​

Recently, JaVon was awarded Playwright of the Year for 2017 for her Hit Gospel Stage Play, “If It Had Not Been for the Lord…” by the Church Stars Christian Entertainment Network located in Phoenix, AZ. As the Director & Playwright of SeLah Productions, Inc., Ms. Butler has wrote, produced, and directed three (3) Hit Gospel Stage Plays entitled, “Lord, If I Can Help Somebody…” which was performed at the historic Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts in New Orleans, LA and Nominated Best Gospel Stage Play of the Year for 2017 by Church Stars Entertainment Christian Network, “If It Had Not Been for the Lord...”  The first Production was such a huge success, “If It Had Not Been for the Lord..”---THE SEQUEL was birthed. JaVon has also wrote, directed & produced two short films entitled, “Hello.”​

Ms. Butler has appeared on television stations locally and nationally. She was a guest on Cox’s Across Louisiana, NBC 33 Local News Morning Show, and The Majesty NOW Show which airs on the IMPACT Network in Waycross, GA serving 50 States & 78 Million viewers. JaVon has engaged in radio interviews locally and nationally as well.


JaVon has initiated other programs under SeLah Productions, Inc. for the community such as “Theater Me,” which is a college program for students to obtain their Volunteer Hours at an accredited University or Community College. Also,  JaVon Ophelia’s ACT, a program with extensive training for acting, singing, and dancing. Ms. Butler also offers Coaching/Mentorship Training sessions to individuals desiring a career in the Performing Arts. ​


Ms. Butler's desire is to continue writing life-changing plays that will minister spiritually to people and help them apply what they see in the Gospel Stage Play Productions to their daily lives.
